So many claim to be lazy and unmotivated because they are unsure about what they are passionate about…they simply do not know what career they want or whose lives they want to change. They limit their knowledge and life experience intake and make themselves feel better about it by claiming they do not want to know too much otherwise it will be even harder to decide…how wrong could they be. Take me for example, growing up I loved absolutely everything. I mean everything. I would see people dance and I wanted to do it. I would watch history programs and decide that to be a historian was the best way for me. I would listen to a song, start to sing and be absolutely sure singing is for me. I am happy I stepped out and tried little bits and bobs because soon enough I found out what I actually didn’t like doing – you know, I loved it from afar. I am forever and always grateful that I was encouraged to test things out.
As I got older it isn’t everything I try but I still challenge myself to try new things and venture outside of my comfort zone. Why? Because it feeds my perspective. Now I know my loves are music, literature and development (people and business). The first two are hobbies, the last is my profession. I have found that a lot of my time, reading, and networking are centered on my profession but it feeds my music and literature. I experience things at work, reading and in my day to day that sparks a creative response and I end up singing about them. It was hard initially – feeling like a sell out to one passion over another but eventually things just started to fall into place.
One thing is for sure, I am happy I exposed myself to a little bit of everything initially because now I am not thinking ‘Oh maybe I missed out by not doing X’…Can you say that for yourself?
If not – it is never too late to start exploring.
