Mini series part 2: Reflections on being 20-something

In my last post as part of this mini series I mentioned the me, myself and I my generation seemed to be plagued with. It seemed fitting to use the next post to think about what I think we should be like… Well not just me. God said it first!

So….This year one thing I am focusing on is being less self centered. I want my love for others to be so rich and all encompassing that when they leave my presence, they feel loved and empowered. I’ve noticed that too many people are walking wounded. Having been hurt, abused and generally mistreated by other people, they struggle to know what love is and if it does come, they mistrust it.

This has to change! When did we allow ourselves to get so cold and skeptical?

I think it is almost universally acknowledged that golden rules such ad ‘treat others the way you want to be treated’ are not at the gorefront of many minds anymore. I want to be part of the 20-somethings who haven’t kept up with the times in that respect. Who cares if people call me old school for wanting to care for others? I certainly don’t.

About Plantain Periodicals

Hello! Welcome to the Plantain Periodicals blogs. The name stems from the kitchen moments I had with my friends at university cooking plantain and planning our lives together. I have used this space as a window into my mind and the way I make sense of all my experiences through writing. This is where I share those conversations and moments that happen inside my head as a young woman growing up in 21st century London. Hopefully you'll be entertained and also learn a thing or two. My main blog ad: My literature blog: NMx
